Optimal block size in raid set for Hansa.hdb
9-23-21
Operating system: macOS
Hello,

We are launching new server on MacOS 11.6 with 8 SSD disks in Raid 10. It will be used as a Standard ERP server.
We were wondering what disk block size uses Standard ERP for the database? Or just what block size shall we set to have maximum performance for the database?

Can anyone advise?

The database internal block size is 512 bytes.

The best performance for normal operations (saving records, reading records, reports, maintenances) will likely be as small a block-size as possible.

Operations such as making a copy of the database file might perform better with a large block size as these are sequential copies.

Imports of text backups is likely not affected much by the block size as long as RAM is sufficient.

Thank you for your reply.

Regarding RAM size.... can you advise what RAM size and --db-cache=?G parameter would provide best performance of importing text backup of database which has 120 GB?

Hello,

a guideline to use, is maximum of 70% of available ram on the server. But for your specific question, i have not seen any significant increase of speed after 27G cache used even if db is way larger than that
